2012 Spring European Diplomacy Workshop The European Diplomacy Workshop (EDW) is a biannual, skills focused workshop and seminar program at the European Academy of Diplomacy. It is designed to bring participants up to date with important European and regional issues and provide expert level skills training in public speaking, presentations, negotiations, and debate. The European Diplomacy Workshop is a forum for exchanging experiences and enhancing cooperation between young leaders from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East by giving participants opportunities to broaden their EU and regional specific knowledge and acquire and practice essential skills necessary for shaping the modern world. The EDW is a specialized program, which educates participants in European Union structures of diplomacy and creates a greater capacity for understanding and influencing EU foreign policy. Designed specifically with young leaders and civil servants & public administrators in mind, it regularly attracts representatives from both within and outside the EU and from a wide variety of institutions, governmental and NGO alike. Only the most promising 20 young leaders and an additional 5 Scholarships winners are invited to attend each European Diplomacy Workshop. Group size is regulated to ensure maximum participation and engagement between participants and expert trainers. Curriculum The program is a 7-day - 48 organized hours of expert seminars, skills workshops & practice, panel discussions and visits to public institutions. Additional activities, including the Warsaw Uprising Museum, sightseeing, as well as study visits allow foreign participants to widen their knowledge of Eu & Polish institutions and Polish culture and history. *EDW 2011 participants visited the Danish Embassy, 2012 visit is yet to be confirmed Methodology The European Diplomacy Workshop focuses on both practical skills and current EU and regional issues. Our skills trainers are among the best in Europe in the areas of negotiations, public speaking, and presentation skills while our subject matter experts are former ambassadors and ministers of foreign affairs, advisors to Polish presidents and prime ministers, and leading academics in their field. Seminars, panel discussions, and workshops are all designed to give participants maximum interaction with trainers and other participants. In addition to workshop hours, participants are expected to prepare a short presentation on one of the following subjects:
Presentations are on the final day of the workshop and will be given in front of a panel of EAD experts. Following the delivery of presentations, questions from the board and participants, a top prize will be awarded to the best presentation Diplomas are awarded to the participants upon completion of the program. Enrollment To enroll, please click on the APPLY link below. You must attach your CV in Europass format. After reviewing all the candidates, the top 20 candidates will be notified on 2 April, 2012. Scholarships 5 Scholarships will be awarded to participants from Eastern Partnership countries. To be considered for a scholarship, you must be after 4th year of studies (graduate, doctoral and young professionals may also apply. Students before their 4th year of studies will not be considered) with an already proven academic or professional interest in diplomacy and international relations. Cover Letter Note: Scholarships will be awarded to only applicants from Eastern Partnership countries Location The European Diplomacy Workshop is held in the conference rooms of the European Academy of Diplomacy Dates & Deadlines The Spring Edition of the EDW will be held from 22 April to 28 April 2012 7 March - Deadline for Scholarship Applications 12 March - Notification of Scholarship Winners 30 March - Deadline for all EDW applications 2 April - Notification of successful applications 6 April - Deadline for payment of EDW fees Cost 290 EUR (without accommodation) or 490 EUR (with accommodation) The registration fee includes 7 days of the courses, materials, coffee breaks, lunches, dinners, social events and diploma. All participants are expected to arrange their own travel. Normal registration will be concluded on 30 March 2012 and all successful participants will be notified by 2 April, 2012.
